Anesthesiologists are the medical doctors who are responsible for your well-being before, during, and after surgery. We See You Through Your Most Critical Times
Ontario’s 1600+ anesthesiologists:
Provide local, regional and general anesthesia in the Operating Room;
Administer epidural analgesia to mothers in labour;
Assist with resuscitation in the Emergency Department, and
Treat critically ill patients in the Intensive Care Unit.
We provide sedation for painful procedures throughout the hospital. We treat both acute and chronic pain conditions, and are responsible for pre-operative assessment and the immediate post-operative care of patients undergoing surgery. We are often involved in running operating rooms, and are involved in hospital administration.

Because we participate in so many aspect of caring for Ontario's patients, we are uniquely positioned to identify opportunities for efficiencies. We also have a strong history of working with the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care to improve fiscal prudence, while ensuring we maintain the highest standards of care, and access to care, for all Ontarians. Attend Our Fall Leadership Day
Healthcare in Ontario rapidly changing. To succeed in this new environment, it is crucial that our Members we have a strong fundamental knowledge of how the provincial healthcare system works. On September 26, we are hosting our latest leadership development day, Health System Fundamentals for the Anesthesiologist: Part II, which will explore what our Members need to know about the system’s key players, their roles and responsibilities, how funds flows and how decisions get made. This is event is free with your OAM registration and is now accredited with CAS for 6.75 CPD credits! As well, this Group Learning program has been certified by the College of Family Physicians of Canada for up to 12.50 Mainpro+ credits. Spaces are still available so apply today.
Register Now for the 2019 OAM
Register now for one of the country’s top gatherings of anesthesiologists and anesthesia knowledge. The 64th annual Ontario Anesthesia Conference returns to the fantastic Westin Harbour Castle Hotel and Conference Centre, located in downtown Toronto. The OAM will start on Thursday, September 26 with our annual fall leadership day and wrap on Sunday, September 29. In between, we’ll be hosting practical, relevant sessions as well as such events as our Saturday night social event and our Chiefs and FP-A luncheons. The OMA has received the following from the CFCP: This Group Learning program has been reviewed by the College of Family Physicians of Canada and is awaiting final certification by the College’s National Chapter.
Coming Soon: The New OA App
We’re thrilled to announce that we’re putting the final touches on our new Ontario’s Anesthesiologist app. This free tool, which will be available for both Apple and Android devices, is designed by Ontario’s Anesthesiologists for Ontario’s anesthesiologists. It’s a “one-stop show” where you’ll be able to read the latest Section news, find out about upcoming CME-earning events and browse through the new and improved Resource Centre. You’ll also be able to ask (and answer) clinical and administrative questions and share work conducted by yourself, your colleagues and your centres.
Join Our Beyond the Mask Working Group
Beyond the Mask is our five-year strategic initiative designed to enable Anesthesiologists to demonstrate innovative and leadership skills and abilities within the peri-operative suite and beyond and thus elevate our role and profile in the healthcare system. Past projects include the Choosing Wisely Implementation Guide, which supports conversations to reduce unnecessary tests, treatments and procedures. Congratulations to the Recipient of our 2018 Distinguished Service Award, Dr. Doreen Yee from Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre
The Ontario’s Anesthesiologists Distinguished Service Award is awarded to an anesthesiologist in recognition of outstanding contributions in patient care and the promotion of our specialty over the course of their career.
